Out of the terrific variety of shows in Las Vegas, it can sometimes get a little confusing trying to decide just what to see. They are ALL good shows! So how to choose? As someone who has been in Las Vegas for many years and has seen most everything there is to see here, Vegastravelsite would like to make the following suggestions:
If you want to see the most amazing show ever and are not constrained by a tight budget, then "O" should definitely be your first choice. Cirque du Soleil has completely outdone themselves with this production, which is set in a theater that was specially built for the show. In fact, there is nowhere else in the world that it could be staged - how many places can you find a 1.5 million gallon tank of water, after all? Everyone who has seen this show walks away saying either that they would love to see it again, or this is already a repeat visit for them. What higher praise can one ask for?
Another great choice for those who want comedy rather than awe is Danny Gans. Repeatedly named Entertainer of the Year by the Las Vegas Review and Journal's Reader's Poll, Gans is known as the Man of 1,000 Voices. His show is fast-paced and side-splitting funny as he rockets from one dead-on impersonation to another. This show is always a sell-out.
If you need to keep it under $100, all is not lost. There is still excellent and exciting entertainment available to you that won't break your wallet. Caesar's Magical Empire is one of my personal favorites and may well be the best-kept secret in town. It's definitely one of the best values! The whole experience lasts a little over three hours, includes dinner, and features three separate magic shows! The atmosphere must also be experienced to be believed; the Empire has won awards as being the best themed attraction in the world. Imagine a cross between Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. Only better.
For the musically inclined, try Clint Holmes. I have to say that when I went to see his show, I walked in with zero expectations. Within five minutes, my feet were tapping. Personable, charming, and possessing a great voice, Clint Holmes wowed the entire audience. The music was eclectic in style, running the gamut from popular tunes of the last few decades to light jazz and even to a (brief) touch of opera. This man clearly loves his music, and truly enjoys sharing it with his audience. It's a lot of fun, and he deserved the standing ovation which he received at the end of the performance.
Recommendations that won't blow your budget are the Folies Bergere . This is the single longest-running show in town, and is one of the few places where you can still see the classic Las Vegas showgirl in all her feathered finery. The show has recently been updated for the 21st century, is tastefully done, and is truly enjoyable. For women of another flavor entirely, LaCage is a lot of fun. These female impersonators feature a variety of performers from past and present in acts that are dead on the money - except for the couple that are deliberately and hysterically "off". Expect to laugh a lot with this show, even as you're finding it hard to believe that these women are truly men!
Vegastravelsite also recomends EFX ALIVE with Rick Springfield in a Must See Show.
